For those who live with CPTSD or long-term trauma, gratitude cannot be forced. It arises only when the nervous system begins to feel safe again, when the body no longer expects danger in every breath.

I’ve seen in both therapy and energy work that authentic gratitude appears after integration, not before it. It’s the result of presence, not pressure; a sign that your inner world is beginning to trust life again.

So if gratitude feels distant, that’s not failure. It’s a message from your system: “I’m still protecting you.”

Yesterday’s Full Moon Ceremony was almost at full capacity and yet, somehow, it still felt intimate.

For many of us, especially those who carry trauma, identity is something we learn to shape around survival. We become who we needed to be to stay safe, accepted, or loved. We adapt. We over-function. We silence parts of ourselves that once felt too vulnerable to be seen.

Over time, this adaptation can become a mask so well-crafted that we forget there was ever someone underneath it.

But healing often begins with this quiet discomfort; an inner restlessness that can’t be explained. A feeling that the life we’re living doesn’t fully align with something deeper inside us. It’s not always dramatic. Often, it’s subtle. A sense that we’re ready to meet ourselves beyond the roles, the coping, the conditioning.

This is the work of remembering. It’s the process of slowly, gently, and sometimes painfully peeling back the layers we built to survive, so that we can reconnect with the truth of who we are and who we were before the trauma, the expectations, and the silence.

And while this process can feel disorienting, especially if you were never taught how to feel safe within yourself, it is also the beginning of real freedom. Of returning home to your own body. Of making choices from alignment, not fear.
